Steps

1. Unscrew door hinges from door frame.
2. Use a flat bar (pry bar)and remove the trim around outside door frame being very careful not to destroy too much drywall.
3. Remove door jam starting at the bottom of jam working up. After both sides are off make sure to remove jam header. Now you have an open area.
4. Get 1/2 inch drywall and cut it to size and screw drywall to 2x4s that should be exposed.
5. Get corner bead then nail to corners then use drywall mud to cover beading feathering out to get flat surface (may have to do 2 or 3 times). When done with sanding and paint.You have a nice hole in wall.

Tips

• Some options might be get small shower rod and hang beads or small Christmas lights maybe a curtain to match wall covering.
• If door is not going to be used drywall one side and build shelves for knick nacks .
• Add a glass block with colored light behind it or just a pocket door (slides into wall).
